TikTok's Role in the Consumer Purchase Journey

Martha Lynn, Social Media Manager, Eleven Miles

Emerging research is helping businesses understand TikTok’s role in the consumer purchase journey. Working with the researchers, Material, TikTok’s latest insights demonstrate the value of word of mouth in the platform's unique 'infinite loop' retail path to purchase. TikTok outlined earlier this year how the infinite loop retail path meets consumers where they want to be met, which TikTok says is not in the traditional marketing funnel. From discovery to participation, the infinite loop is powered by an inspired and active community.

The latest research shows that almost three in five users discover new brands and products on TikTok, and their users are twice as likely to recommend a product or service they've discovered on TikTok. Users are also 15% more likely to use the platform to research brands or products (and 55% already do so!). And the purchase journey doesn’t stop in-platform, over half of the users go on to research the product online or in person. Brands can leverage these insights with always-on paid advertising campaigns to get their product in front of active TikTok users. Brands should also consider partnering with creators to amplify their reach and drive discovery and consideration.

Idea ads with paid partnership means brands can partner with creators on the platform to create Idea ads. The paid partnership tool will now also be available for creators on Pinterest so they can easily tag brand partners in their content. These tools are available in over 30 countries around the world.

TikTok Launches TikTok Avatars

TikTok has launched TikTok Avatars, created as a way for users to express their individuality on the platform. In the effects section of the app, users can search for the Avatar effect where they can customise the Avatar through hairstyles, accessories, piercings and makeup. TikTok has outlined how it has built the feature to be inclusive, from outfits, skin tones and hair colour down to texture and will continue to improve the experience to ensure it is representative of all users on the platform. Once the Avatar has been created, users can then record videos and when the user moves, the Avatar will mimic their motion.
