YouTube Looks to Promote Shorts via World Cup Activations

YouTube is providing users with more ways of being able to watch, and keep up with, the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This includes being able to watch matches from past tournaments on FIFA's YouTube channel as well as recaps and highlights of matches from a number of broadcasters spanning 130 markets around the world. Creators at home and at the ground in Qatar will also be creating content on YouTube Shorts about their experiences at the first round matches in person. Viewers can tune in at home with the #ShortsFIFAWorldCup where they can also remix and create their own world cup content.

TikTok Announces the Top European TikTok Ads of 2022

The TikTok Awards took place recently, which celebrated brands from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland and the Nordics who are leading the charge on TikTok with creative, high-performing campaigns. At the event, all the local winners from the competing nations came together in Amsterdam for the ceremony to see who would be victorious as the brand that best ‘gets TikTok’. TikTok has outlined the shortlisted nominees and campaigns as well as highlighting how Italy’s Unieuro won the Greatest TikTok Europe prize for their “The Clerk” Campaign.

12 Graphic Design Trends for 2023 

The 2023 graphic design trends have been revealed! But what is taken into account when these trends are decided? Often design is inspired by cultural context of the time, such as in 2022 when the world was recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, design trends were colourful and nostalgic. This year it is suggested that design will be inspired by the worldwide rising inflation, the growing climate crisis and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In response to this there are the predicted graphic design trends for 2023; Mysticism, Risoprint reimagined, Punk revival, Retro line art, Airbrush surrealism, Folk botanical, 90s space psychedelia, Mixed dimension, Acid graphics, Experimental escapism, Complex compositions and Abstract gradient.

Meta Launches New Projects Around Mixed Reality

Meta launched Meta House at Miami Art Week (1st - 3rd December) which showcased mixed reality experiences such as a VR art gallery, interactive AR murals, a VR sculpting workshop which featured upcoming artists COVL and YONK as well as live performances from artists such as Doja Cat. Meta says that they are investing in the creative community and are improving their products and tools to monetise Meta users’ creativity. Meta is also collaborating with intersectional voices across diverse communities with the aim of creating a fair and equal metaverse.

LinkedIn Adds New Tools for LinkedIn Pages

LinkedIn has announced new tools for LinkedIn Pages. This includes updates to Newsletters which will now include the capability to add your article's SEO titles, description and tags to help increase visibility amongst audiences when they're searching outside the platform. In addition, LinkedIn will also automatically send notifications to new followers of the company page to subscribe to the company's newsletter. LinkedIn is also adding two new tools to product pages to improve discovery which includes adding the option for users to find products via the in-platform search option. Lastly, LinkedIn has also upgraded its Competitor Analytics dashboard, which includes highlighting trending content from competitors to help companies stay on top of what's trending in their industry and inform their content strategies.

How Accurate is Mental Health Advice on TikTok?

With TikTok fast becoming one of the most influential social media platforms, users now use the app for more than just entertainment. Many viewers are now going to the app to find, amongst other things, mental health advice. However, researcher PlushCare found that;

  • 83.7% of mental health advice on TikTok is misleading. While 14.2% of videos include content that could be potentially damaging. 

  • 100% of the content for ADHD contained misleading information, the most of any condition in their analysis.

  • Content covering bipolar disorder (94.1% of videos) and depression (90.3% of videos) were also found to be highly misleading.

  • Only 9% of TikTokers advising on the platform had a relevant qualification, with the remaining 91% lacking the medical training to support those with challenges.
